Turning troubleshooter · Vibration
Chatter and vibration
A loud whine or buzz, and a wavy pattern on the part. Worst in boring and on long, thin parts.
Likely causes
- Long overhang, or a slender bar or part
- Weak clamping of the tool, bar or part
- High radial force: big nose radius, a small entering angle, or a dull edge
- Cutting too light for the insert to bite
What to change
Fixes both makers give come first. Change one thing at a time, and see what it does.
